Zach and I had been wanting a Toy Hauler for quite awhile. Between the motorcycle track days that he does and the camping that I want to do more of, a toy hauler was really the smartest option for us. A place to sleep and keep the dogs plus a way to transport his motorcycles.
We had even gone to some different RV Shows to look at the options that are out there. With Zach’s truck, we needed a lighter weight option, so we were leaning towards the Forest River Wolf Pup. For over a year, we looked at options, but could never commit to the purchase. That is until Zach found a remodeled enclosed trailer in Pennsylvania.
A fellow motorcycle rider was looking to sell his 24′ Homesteader Trailer that had been converted with a living space in the front half and room to carry 3 motorcycles and gear in the back half. For us, it was the perfect option. The price was great, there was more space than other options we were looking at and there was a door dividing the living and hauling spaces.
So we decided to make the last minute trip to Pittsburgh to pick it up. Luckily, my parents don’t live to far from Pittsburgh, so they met us there to check over the trailer before we hauled it all the way to North Carolina. The hardest part of the whole trip was trying to get out of the town we picked the trailer up in; steep, narrow roads.
HALL-E Before

I guess I should explain the name. Zach names all his vehicles, so I had been trying to come up with a name for the trailer. While googling different potential names, Haully came up because the trailer hauls all our toys. And Zach suggested changing it to HALL-E like WALL-E. It stuck and now we even have a HALL-E graphic on the back thanks to my mom and her Cricut.
HALL-E So Far
HALL-E is a never-ending project (like almost all our projects)! Each trip we take, we add some more to dos to the list.
- Removed the bunk bed – as much as we liked the idea of extra storage above the bed, it wouldn’t fit the Queen size mattress that we already had, but a regular bed frame and Queen mattress would fit.
- Added in a piece of flooring in the gap in the floor – this was the true essence of adventure, complete with an ER visit and stitches. There had been a full wall/door closing off the shower area of the trailer at some point that had been removed. This meant there was a section of the floor that was missing. So on a night that I was home by myself, I decided it would be a great idea to patch the floor. I had got the additional piece of flooring close to fitting and made the mistake of using a knife to shave the floor piece to fit. Unfortunately, the knife slipped and gave me a lovely cut on my ankle worthy of 7 stitches.
- Added a corner cabinet in the shower area – we found a great corner cabinet at Ikea to hold all the shower essentials, a mirror, dog essentials and more.
- New door between the front and back – the previous owner’s dog had done some damage to the door, so we replaced that.
- Added cabinet handles and drawer locks – during the trip home most of the drawers opened and we did not want to continue to deal with that every trip.
- Added additional lighting – added lights under the cabinets and above the bed to brighten up the living area
- Additional hooks on the back walls – after a trip or two it was very apparent that we needed more hooks to use as anchors to hold all of our toys and camping gadgets in play on the road.
- Tire/Luggage rack – Zach wanted something to hold his spare motorcycle tires and wheels for the track trips and I in turn get to use it as a luggage/drying rack when it isn’t holding tires.
- Fishing Pole Mount – added a fishing pole holder to the ceiling, so we can carry multiple fishing poles on trips and have them out of the way
- Added Propane Tank Mount – With help from my dad, we added a propane tank mount to the tongue of HALL-E (you never know what useful parts and pieces you will find at my parent’s house)

More To Dos
- Lighting on the outside
- Table mount on the outside (This is half finished, Zach converted an old table from a camper to mount inside the back part of the trailer, but I want a mount on the outside as well so we can move the table around if needed)
- And more things that I have probably forgot!!
Excited to get HALL-E back on the road this weekend.
