A Day at Jeter Mountain Farm: The “Disneyland of Orchards”

View from the grape vines at Jeter Mountain Farm

Recently we had a girls’ camping weekend up near Asheville, North Carolina, and one of our stops was Jeter Mountain Farm in Hendersonville. My mother-in-law described it as the “Disneyland of orchards,” and honestly, that’s the perfect way to put it. I imagine it’s what an orchard at Dollywood would be like, and both are great descriptions in my opinion.

Before I dive in, here’s one quick tip. Plan to spend the whole day at the farm, pack your patience, and be ready to wait in a few lines. The staff runs everything like a well-oiled machine and they do a fantastic job keeping things moving smoothly.

Getting There

We arrived a little later than planned since we may have stumbled across a store with a big sale on the way and took a slight detour. By the time we got to the farm it was already buzzing with people.

After parking, we made our way to the shuttle stop where a tractor and wagon take visitors up the hill to the main part of the farm. For those who don’t mind a little exercise, there’s also a walking trail that leads up the same way.

The Main Farm Area

Once you reach the top, it’s easy to feel a bit overwhelmed by how much there is to do. The main area is bustling with activity and offers something for everyone:

  • BBQ Restaurant
  • Playground
  • Market
  • Coffee Shop
  • Cider Bar
  • Live Music
  • Ice Cream Shop
  • Bakery
  • Soup and Bread Bar
  • Tractor to the U-Pick Fields

We decided to start with lunch from the BBQ spot since no one wants to deal with our group when we’re hangry. The line moved quickly, the food came out fast, and it was delicious. It was definitely worth starting the visit there.

U-Pick Adventure

Once we finished eating, the line for U-Pick had gotten a bit shorter so we jumped in. That weekend they were offering several varieties of apples, four kinds of grapes, and blueberries for picking. We decided to try a little of each.

After paying, we joined the queue for the tractor and wagon ride out to the fields. When we arrived, the staff gathered everyone to share which fruits were available that day, which varieties to look for, and how to tell when they were ready to pick.

Of the three fruits, the apples were my least favorite to pick, mostly because the trees were already pretty picked over by the time we got there. They open different sections each day to spread out the crowds, so that may not be everyone’s experience. Since it was fall, apple season was in full swing and that meant the orchard area was more crowded than the grape vines or blueberry patch.

The grape picking ended up being my favorite part. The vines smelled incredible and searching through them for perfect clusters was surprisingly relaxing.

By the time our baskets were full, we were exhausted and ready for a ride back to the main part of the farm.

Relaxing at the Porch and Market

Back at the top, the moms claimed some seats on the big porch overlooking the blueberry patch while I went to pick my blueberries. They grabbed iced coffees from the coffee shop and treated themselves to fresh apple cider donuts, which smelled amazing.

Before heading out, we stopped by the market and picked up a few goodies to take home. It was the perfect way to end the day.

Final Thoughts

Jeter Mountain Farm truly lives up to its reputation. It’s busy, but also beautifully organized and full of charm. Between the views, the food, the fresh fruit, and the little surprises around every corner, it’s easy to see why it’s such a popular spot.

Next time I’ll plan to get there earlier and maybe skip the shopping detour, but I would absolutely go back, especially for more of those grapes and apple cider donuts.
