Nora Mill Granary on the Chattahoochee River

Nora Mill Granary

On our recent trip to Helen, GA we made a stop at the Nora Mill Granary, a working grist mill and country store.

If you are looking for locally milled flours, mixes, grits, and grains, this is a must-stop. Established in 1876, Nora Mill is still in operation today, producing stone-ground products using the same time-honored methods.

Our Haul

Since it was right before Christmas, we bought a little bit of everything. Many of their products make great gifts.

We picked up hush puppy mix and fish fry mix for Zach’s Dad. Funnel Cake mix for Zach’s mom, which we tested out a few weekends ago and can confirm it is delicious, even though we need to work on batter thickness.

For ourselves, we grabbed special high gluten bread flour, pancake & biscuit mix, and cornbread mix, along with key lime jelly, boysenberry jam, strawberry rhubarb jam and a key lime marinade.

I have already used all the mixes and they did not disappoint. The bread flour made fantastic pretzel bites and I used the pancake mix to make both biscuits and waffles, both were a hit. The cornbread mix was really good as well, though I would probably add a bit of honey the next time around because I like my cornbread a little sweeter.

Shop Online

As we were walking back across the road with our box full of goodies, I told Zach that we might be in trouble if I really liked everything because they are about 3 hours away from where we live. So I was pleasantly surprised when I looked up their website and you can order online and have it shipped to you!! I am already putting together our next order.

Things to Know

Parking is limited along the road by the mill itself, but there is a lot across the street where Habersham Winery and the Nacoochee Antique Mall (another great stop) are located. You can park there and walk across.

Be careful when crossing the road. The mill kind of pops up out of nowhere, though when we visited, drivers were very respectful and stopped to let people cross.

Depending on the weather, the mill will be hot or cold, so dress accordingly.

Can’t Wait for You to Visit

Nora Mill Granary is a small stop with a big payoff. Between the history, the unique products, and the convenience of online ordering, it is easy to see why this place has been around for generations.
