Charlotte Area Adventures: Restaurant Week

That’s right! Last Friday was my birthday and lucky for me, Restaurant Week in Charlotte usually falls right around my birthday. Queen’s Feast is a week long celebration of some of the Charlotte areas best restaurants. I don’t typically go to any of these restaurants because they are out of my price range. But that is what is so great about Queen’s Feast. A lot of these restaurants I would love to go to, offer a select menu for a discounted price during this time.

Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ

I decided that we should try Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ for my birthday dinner. This is one of those restaurants where there is a gas grill built into the table, so they bring out raw meat and you get cook your own meal. The other exciting part, the menu is all you can eat, but there is a catch. You only get 90 minutes.

There are 3 All You Can Eat options and we chose the middle option, Ultimate.

What we ordered

  • Fried Pork Gyoza Dumplings
  • Cheese Corn Butter
  • Fried Cheese Wontons
  • Seaweed Soup
  • Half Gyu-Kaku Salad
  • Beef Sukiyaki Bibimbap
  • Bistro Hanger Steak Miso
  • Harami Steak Miso
  • Beef Tongue
  • Kalbi Chuck Rib Sweet Soy Tare
  • Umakara Pork
  • Japanese Pork Sausage
  • Chicken Breast Teriyaki
  • Chicken Breast Basil
  • Shrimp Garlic
  • Spicy Shrimp
  • Garlic Mushroom
  • A Birthday S’more
  • Frosty Tropical Sorbet

I know that seems like so much food, but they bring out small plates of each item. Only 2-4 at a time. So you cook and eat, order some more until you are full and/or your time limit is up. It really was a fun experience and if there are items on the menu that you have wanted to try, like beef tongue, it is a great way to try new foods. Because if you don’t like it, it isn’t your entire meal. One other thing to keep in mind when eating here is that if you have large quantities of food left over, you will get charged extra for it. But that is why it is great that you can order in rounds.

Birthday Song

Sandi let them know that it was my birthday. So they brought out an ice cream sundae with graham crackers and a candle and sang to me.

My Birthday Present

There will be more birthday adventures soon because Zach signed us up for glass blowing classes at NC Glass Center in Asheville. We visited the NC Glass Center a few years ago and I have fallen in love with Blown Away on Netflix. So I can’t wait to try my hand at making my own glass creation.
