The 2021 Competition
This was the first time that I was able to attend the Build Your Own Boat Competition at the US National Whitewater Center since I participated in 2016. It was a blast to watch the competition again.

It really is a blast to watch all these teams try to make it down the course without their boat falling apart or their team members falling out. It really is harder than it looks. This year’s winner was Wave Digger.
Participating in 2016
When I worked at Cabelas’, we got a team together and built our own boat for the competition. We built the Turtle Van mostly out of wood, blue plastic barrels and shrink wrap. And dressed up as the four Teenage Ninja Turtles, shells and all. The Turtle Van did survive the whole course, but unfortunately I fell out of the boat during the second drop/rapid. So no win for us!
