New England Road Trip Day 4

New England Road Trip Day 4

Day 4 of our New England Road Trip took us from Rockland, ME to Provincetown, MA.

Stop 1: Damariscotta, ME

Our first stop of the day was the Barn Door Cafe in Damariscotta, ME for coffee and some delicious baked goods. The cafe is super cute and attached to a local book store. After breakfast, we took a stroll around the main part of town to check out some of the decorated pumpkins on display.

Stop 2: Freeport, ME

The next stop was Freeport, ME to visit the original LL Bean Store. I didn’t really know what to expect, but figured we should stop since we would be so close. If you are ever close by, it is definitely worth checking out.

New England Road Trip Day 4 - LL Bean

We didn’t make it into the Hunting & Fishing Store or the Bike, Boat & Ski Store. But we did venture into the main building which housed apparel, camping gear, etc. We also stopped into the Home Store to take a look as well.

Stop 3: Salem, MA

After LL Bean, we decided to stop off in Salem since it was October and we would be going right by their on our way to Provincetown. I will admit that we were very naive with this thought. I realize that there are a lot of people that love Halloween and that Salem in clearly a tourist spot, especially in October. But neither of us expected what we got ourselves into.

There wasn’t much traffic leading into Salem and I kept my eyes peeled for parking signs and was able to direct Megan to a parking deck pretty quick. That’s where the “fun” started. It took us probably an hour to park once we entered the parking garage and we lucked out with one of the last parking spots.

Once we were back on street level, it’s like suddenly there were people everywhere. But we had just spent an hour waiting in traffic in a parking garage, so we were determined to at least walk around Salem. Our plan of hey lets stop, check it out and grab lunch wasn’t exactly working out. We were in complete awe of the lines everywhere for everything. Want to go on a tour? Get in line. Want to eat at any restaurant? Get in line.

We ended up finding a little pizza place, Bambolina that seemed to have a line moving at a fairly good rate. We lucked out because the food was delicious. I ordered the Soppressata pizza and was able to get a local hard cider from Far From the Tree.

After lunch, we decided to walk around a bit and then hit the road for Provincetown and the Harbor Hotel.
