Charlotte Area Adventures: The Boathouse

One of the things I love about the Charlotte area is that there is always something to do. Between the city and the small neighboring towns there is always a festival, movie night, live band or some fun gathering to attend.

The Boathouse

Last week I made it to The Boathouse for the first time. It is located on the South Fork River in McAdenville and is run by the Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation. The Catawba Riverkeeper uses The Boathouse as a way to interact with the public and share their mission of preserving, protecting and restoring the waters of the Catawba-Wateree River Basin.

It was one of their Jam at the Dam nights. There was a band, The Missing Finger and a food truck serving fish frys and chicken tenders. They also had their store open which has a bar inside and merchandise for purchase.

The Boathouse

The atmosphere at The Boathouse is so welcoming. It has the small town feel where most people know each other, but everyone is welcome.

Other Catawba Riverkeeper Events

Besides Jam at the Dam, The Boathouse also hosts a paddle, bike and run series as well as kayak rentals and guided tours.

They also host Riversweep in October that is a cleanup event for the Catawba-Wateree River Basin. It is a great way for those of us that enjoy the local waters to help do our part in preserving and protecting them, so that we can continue to enjoy them. If you are interested in volunteering for Riversweep, they start signups on August 22.
